John Greer was a policeman in the City of London police in the early 80’s. Do you know him?

“A policeman stands guard at the entrance to Blackfriars Bridge in London, closed because of the discovery of a World War Two shell in the Thames last night. Rush hour was disrupted by the closure as bomb disposal experts got to work defusing the 18-inch shell. 11/04/1983 PA”

Many thanks to Louise at the Press Association who identified the date and found the caption for me. I have had the photo for over 30 years! I bought it from them after seeing it published in the Telegraph.

I knew him 1982/83 when I was Jane Bird. He had a little girl called Claire and had been married to Caroline. He was 25 in 1982 and came from Glasgow and was living at Guyatt Gardens in Mitcham. Please email me if you know him I would love to hear his news.

It is possible that this is linked to him as it mentions John a son and Claire a grandchild. Apologies if it is not, please contact me and I will remove it.

Peacefully, at home on 6th April 2013, Matthew Greer, beloved husband of Alice Ewing and loving father of John, Alison and David and much loved grandfather of Claire, Joanne, Kathryn, Evelyn, Lucy, Charlotte, Libby and Matthew, brother to Janey in Canada.
